Frequently Asked Questions:

Is it OK to see a chiropractor if I'm pregnant?
Anytime is a good time for a better functioning nervous system. Pregnant mothers find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Adjusting methods are always adapted to a patient’s size, weight, age, and condition of health.

What is a subluxation?
A subluxation is a spinal abnormaility that interferes with your nerves. Subluxations are commonly associated with:
- pain, pins & needles, numbness, pinched nerves, fatigue / low energy, muscle weakness, poor flexibility, poor posture, abdominal pain / heartburn, sports injuries, RSI, recurrent infections and many more.
Doctors of Chiropractic specialise in locating, analysing and correcting vertebral subluxations.

What is an adjustment?

The doctor uses a carefully directed and controlled pressure in a precise direction to a joint that is not moving properly, to allow the body to begin the healing process.

How is an adjustment given?
Many different ways. It may be a quick movement or slow constant pressure, sometimes only one area may be adjusted and sometimes the entire spine will receive attention.

What is the popping sound?
The same as a knuckle cracking. It indicates the joint has separted slightly and released normal fluids and gases in the joint.

Will I need x-rays?
Only if necessary. It depends on what the doctor finds after your consultation and examination. X-rays are an important diagnostic tool. It means doctors don't have to guess or take chances. Like asking a car mechanic to work on the car without lifting the bonnet!

How often will I need to come?

On going chiropractic care can continue the healing process and help prevent your problem returning. In the beginning you will need more frequent adjustments in order to mobilze your spine and improve spinal function - this will usually result in the relief of aches or pain. The frequency of your visits are reduced as you respond to improved spinal function.

How long will it take to get well?
Healing takes time and differs from person to person however, the length of time you have had the problem, your lifestyle and your motivation to get well play an important role.

Do I need to contact my GP if I want to see a chiropractor?
No, you do not need to contact your GP before seeing a chiropractor however, some private medical insurance companies require a GP referral before they will cover the cost of your treatment so please call them in advance and ask.
