Massage:

There are various types of massages, many of which are precticed at Spiro. Massage is used in the management, treatment and rehabilitation of soft tissues of the body e.g. muscles, ligaments and scar tissue.

Benefits include:

  • Improved circulation
  • Better flexibility
  • Increased muscle tone
  • Assistance in the removal of metabolic wastes and physical and mental preparation for sporting events
  • Improved concentration levels
  • Relaxation
  • Intervention at various stages of sport involvement including training; pre, during and post competition
  • Injury recovery therapy and injury prevention

At Spiro all therapy is tailored to each individuals' needs.

Deep Tissue Massage:

Deep tissue treatments need specific and firm pressure to penetrate deep within the muscle tissues, to help release waste products or tension build up that may have occurred.

In deep tissue treatments the practitioner may use either, their knuckles, forearms, elbows, palm or fingertips to perform different techniques.

This massage helps to break up fibrosis that binds one muscle to another, which then assits in stretching, lengthening and releasing muscles at a deeper level.

Remedial Massage:

Remedial massage is all about providing a remedy: healing through palpation and manipulation. Not only can remedial massage speed recovery of muscular and joint problems, it is essential for stress relief; helping muscles to relax and repair. Research has also shown the positive impact remedial massage has on osteo-arthritis.

Many people suffer on a daily basis with muscular and joint problems and simply accept these conditions as part of every day life when they don't have to. As much as remedial massage can help specific injuries it is also an excellent method of injury prevention: a monthly 'MOT' for your body can help ensure you stay in the best health possible.

Everyone can feel the amazing benefits from remedial massage. Our therapists look forward to working with you in order to help your body restore health and balance.

Pregnancy Massage:

On discovering the wonderful news you are pregnant it is unsurprising that you instantly become more bodily aware. Not only is your body rapidly changing in a way totally foreign to first time mums, but no doubt hormones are causing emotional highs and lows that you can never predict!

These are the months when you realise your body is not just yours anymore and everything you do has an impact on your baby growing inside you. Regular massage throughout your entire pregnancy will ensure a much more enjoyable pregnancy from start to finish.

Active Release Techniques® (ART®) are patented, state-of-the-art soft tissue system/movement based massage techniques that areused to both diagnose and treat various ailments resulting from playing sports, cumulative trauma, acute injuries, and everyday wear and tear.

The focus of ART® is to treat disorders of the muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. One of the commonalities of the above conditions is that they are often a result of overused muscles.
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:

  • acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc)
  • accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
  • not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia)

Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonosis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles. Make an appointment with our Chiropractor Dr Nicole Paine for your ART treatment.

Traditional Thai Massage:

Traditional Thai Massage is not only the kneading of muscles and joints, but also a manipulation of massage points along the ten energy lines of the body (“Sen Pra Tan Sib”). When applying pressure to these points there is the stimulation of energy within the body which helps to heal ailing organs and glands and eliminate toxins from the body.

Thai massage differs from oil massage in that it is practised on the floor fully clothed and works in a similar way to that of reflexology. Although some pressure points may feel uncomfortable when there are blockages in the body, you will feel re-energised and refreshed afterwards!

Thai Massage is available in 60 minute or 90 minute appointments so please contact SPIRO for more information or to book an appointment with Stephanie Blake.

The cost of these and other treatments can be found on our Price List page.
